It is derived from the seeds of the archiote tree (Bixa orellana) which is grown in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world.

Annatto, rich in carotenoids and antioxidants, is a common spice in Latin American and Caribbean cuisine. It has been used, since a long time, as colouring in many cheeses (Cheddar, Gloucester) and other dairy products, in rice, seasonings, snack foods, smoked fish, etc. The American natives used it to make body paint and other cosmetics.

Annatto is a natural colouring substance which gives vibrant, warm, deep orange to sunny yellow tones to our soap.
